- Upper and lower profiles of head equally rounded
- Eye located in middle of head
- Dorsal fin with 12 spines and 13 soft rays
- Fins red
Upper sides red shading to pinkish or white below, outer margin of caudal fin blackish; other fins red.
Up to 50 cm TL.
Indo-west Pacific in tropical waters.
Coral and rocky reef from 20 to at least 200 m deep.
Feeds on benthic and planktonic invertebrates and possibly small fishes. Often forms same species schools. In waters off Sumatra, Slender pinjalo are reported to form spawning aggregations.1 Little else is known about its biology or ecology.
Caught mainly with handlines, traps, and bottom trawls.
