Characteristic features:

  • Dorsal and anal fins without scales basally
  • Caudal fin deeply forked
  • dorsal fin with 10 spines and 10 soft rays
  • Preopercle without scales
  • Body blue with yellow dorsal stripe and yellow caudal fin

Colour:

Body bluish grey with broad yellow dorsal stripe, caudal fin yellow.

Size:

Up to 40 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo-West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Associated with coral and rocky reefs, from 20 to at least 150 m depth.

Biology:

Feeds on plankton. Found in large schools. Little is known about its biology or ecology.

Fisheries:

Caught mainly with handlines and bottom longlines.
